Nursing Excellence and Professional Practice Model

To deliver exceptional patient care and achieve the highest national honors for nursing excellence, we follow the Kaiser Permanente Nursing Professional Practice Model in every care interaction. The model seeks to standardize and advance the nursing practice. It supports collaboration, communication, and professional growth.

There are 6 core nursing values that define Kaiser Permanente nurses: Professionalism, Patient and family-centric care, Compassion, Teamwork, Excellence, and Integrity.

Our core values

Our core values establish the foundation for our daily practice. These values keep our focus on building relationships, deepening connections, and caring for the whole patient.

Professionalism: Maintain standards of excellence in the delivery of care.

Patient and family-centric care: Honor the essential role of the patient and family and create memorable moments through extraordinary care.

Compassion: Focus on providing individualized care with a personal touch.

Teamwork: View our team members as partners in success.

Excellence: Embrace the art and science of nursing by integrating the ANA’s “Scope and Standards of Practice” with research, technology, and evidence-based practice.

Integrity: Promote the patient’s right to choose and control their environment.

Nursing professional governance

Our nursing governance is strongly influenced by the Magnet Recognition Program®, the gold standard for nursing excellence. Nursing councils at Kaiser Permanente serve as decision-making bodies that lead and support nursing excellence and improve organizational performance. These councils include nurses and nurse leaders, and multidisciplinary stakeholders from all markets and care disciplines. This structure invites and supports a wide range of perspectives, expertise, and thought leadership that encourages collaboration, upholds ethical standards, and welcomes open, transparent communication.
