Practice Transition Accreditation Program®

Kaiser Permanente Nurse Residency and Nurse Fellow programs exist to engage, support, develop and retain newly graduated nurses and nurses transitioning to a new practice area or specialty.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recognizes programs who meet the global standard of excellence via the Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP)®.

Many of our Northen California and Southern California transition programs have already achieved PTAP ® accreditation or accreditation with distinction.  Other markets are working to meet eligibility requirements.

This accreditation ensures adherence to evidence based best practices for supporting transitioning nurses in 6 key domains identified by ANCC:

  • Program Leadership
  • Program Goals and Outcome Measures
  • Organizational Enculturation
  • Professional Development
  • Instructional Design
  • Practice Based Learning
Nurse residency program

Kaiser Permanente currently has 36 sites in California that have achieved this recognition for residency programs for new registered nurses with fewer than 12 months of experience, and fellowship programs for experienced registered nurses to master a new clinical specialty.

Kaiser Permanente National New Graduate RN Program at Southern California and Hawaii is accredited as a Practice Transition Program by the ANCC’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.

The National New Graduate RN Program at Northern California is accredited with distinction.

Both Northern and Southern California markets have accredited fellowship programs for several of their inpatient practice settings (specialties).
