Practice Transition Accreditation Program®

Kaiser Permanente Nurse Residency and Nurse Fellow programs exist to engage, support, develop and retain newly graduated nurses and nurses transitioning to a new practice area or specialty.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) recognizes programs who meet the global standard of excellence via the Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP)®.

Many of our Northen California, Southern California, and Hawaii transition programs have already achieved PTAP ® accreditation or accreditation with distinction.  Other markets are working to meet eligibility requirements.

This accreditation ensures adherence to evidence based best practices for supporting transitioning nurses in 6 key domains identified by ANCC:

  • Program Leadership
  • Program Goals and Outcome Measures
  • Organizational Enculturation
  • Professional Development
  • Instructional Design
  • Practice Based Learning
Nurse residency program

Kaiser Permanente National New Graduate RN Programs at hospitals in Southern California, Northern California and Hawaii have achieved and sustained (through re-designation) Accreditation with Distinction for their New Graduate RN Residency programs for Registered Nurses with fewer than 12 months of experience. Accreditation with Distinction from the ANCC is awarded to programs who exceed evidence-based requirements, show superior results, and demonstrate strong leadership commitment. “PTAP with Distinction” indicates that the Kaiser Permanente RN residency programs are amongst the best in the world!

Hospitals in Southern California, Hawaii, and Northern California also have several ANCC Accredited Transition to Practice Fellowship Programs designed to support experienced nurses transitioning into a new clinical practice setting or specialty. Recognition for these programs demonstrates our commitment to not only nurses entering the workforce for the first time but for our existing nurses who wish to expand their expertise and practice in new specialties.
